IHI has also presented technical papers on SPB technology at Gastech 82, 84 and 85.
As is well known, SPB is a self-supporting prismatic LNG carrier design with a long record of stable performance. SPB is a word formed from the initial letters of self-supporting and prismatic, combined with B, which relates to IMO type B. It is the result of evaluating the excellent features of the LNG vessel's self-supporting prismatic LNG tanks and has been approved by ship Classification Societies and USCG. SPB is basically a self-supporting prismatic LNG carrier, although it incorporates many improved features compared with the conventional self-supporting prismatic type.
These features are described within.
