In the preparation of the "Gastime" Charter, the guiding principles throughout have been to cover the need for a special document in this particular field by preparing a modern charter which takes into account all the peculiarities of the gas trade and, above all, to prepare a reasonable, balanced standard document acceptable to both sides in the trade.

BIMCO has always strongly advocated the use of standard charterparties with standard text - be it for voyage or time chartering - on the basis of the principle that the terms should be reasonable to both charterers and owners and has also maintained that no good purpose is served if chartering terms are steadily being changed according to the actual freight market.

On the basis of many years' experience in working with these problems, it is the decided opinion of BIMCO that it is in the best interest of all parties engaged in chartering of vessels that the freight rate/charter hire alone should serve to reflect the market situation.
