This a reformatted edition of The ECDIS Manual (2012) which has been written in conjunction with the leading ECDIS experts, manufacturers, international organisations and leading societies to support a vessel’s transition to digital navigation in accordance with IMO, IHO, Flag State, PSC, ISM, SMS and SIRE requirements.

It consists of 3 separate parts. Part 1 details the transition to digital navigation, and in many cases shows how differing ECDIS Systems present similar data. This part has over 500 colour images and screen-shots to guide you each step of the way. Part 2 of the ECDIS Manual contains the symbol guide of Electronic navigational Charts (ENCs), and Part 3 is the reference guidance from IMO and flag States concerning ECDIS and its implementation and use onboard ship.

Client machines:

 

Windows XP SP2/SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 (except Windows RT) and Windows 10 Operating System (32 bits or 64 bits).

Microsoft .NET 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5 (preinstalled on Windows Vista and Windows 7).

 

Server (shared folder):

 

The network version needs to be installed on a shared network folder where the users have write permission.

The type of file server hosting the shared network folder does not matter (on small networks, it can be a normal workstation).

A DVD-drive is recommended to copy the files to the shared folder but the CD/DVD is not protected so the files can be transferred via a USB memory stick or across the network.

 

After installing the program the eBooks need to be unlocked using the licence code (READ-XXXX-...). This is a one off procedure that can be done from any client PC.

 

Unlocking an eBook for a number of users, for instance 5, will allow up to 5 computers to access the eBook.

This is done on a "first come first served" basis meaning subsequent computers will not be able to access the eBook once the licences are used up.

It is possible to transfer licences between computers (with one limitation: the PC giving up the licence cannot access the same eBook for a week).

 

Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) and virtual environments are not supported.
