The existence of substantial quantities of natural gas and the geographical advantage of being located outside the Strait of Hormuz, coupled with the whole-hearted commitment of the Government of Oman to the Project, provides the basis for Oman to be a most dependable source of supply for LNG; this is reinforced by the presence as private shareholders in the project company of some of the world's most financially sound, longest established and most experienced companies.

The proven and recoverable reserves which have been dedicated by the Government to the project are more than adequate to support the 6 million tonnes per annum LNG project over a period of 20 years. Following specification, tendering and marketing activities now underway, construction work on the liquefaction plant and the LNG carriers is expected to start in mid-1996, leading to the first cargo of LNG being loaded for markets in the Far East and South Europe in early 2000.
