Author, Angus Mather, commenced his career with the Ministry of Defence at Her Majesty’s Dockyard, Devonport, in 1970 as a Technician Apprentice. This was followed by 10 years’ service as an Engineer Officer in the British Merchant Navy prior to entering the oil and gas industry. The next 25 years were spent employed both in the contracting industry as Engineering Manager of Kvaerner Oil and Gas Services and as a Classification Society surveyor, involved with oil and gas related products, both on and offshore, in the UK, the Middle East, the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa.

I read it during the flight and my time offshore and continue to do so. There is a lot of material there which is not easy to absorb in the first reading. You have done a great job to describe items with diagrams and lots of photographs that really makes it more interesting and easier to understand. It is definitely a priceless addition to my library of marine books and I just wanted to share this experience with you as a token of thanks to you. I also read about your background in the book and notice you to be a very distinguished engineer and have done a great job to share all your years of knowledge and experience with the rest of the marine world. There seemed to be a vacuum in the field of FPSOs for a good book like this and you have done a brilliant job to bridge it and satisfy our hunger for knowledge in this relatively new field.
