Chapter XII. New regulations 12 and 13 cover the new measures entered into force on 1st July 2004. The problem now was

that the technical measures consisting of WIDS and remote control of de-watering systems forward of the collision

bulkhead, were implemented before any advice had arrived on board. At time of writing this is still the case. However BIMCO’s guidelines have now been presented to IMO and are available in the public arena


The process of planning and controlling cargo operations is addressed with special reference to the derivation of the loading and unloading plans and the requirements for ship/shore communication.


A review of the potential problems that could be encountered during cargo operations is presented. Guidance is given on the measures that should be taken to monitor and control cargo and ballasting operations in order to reduce the possibility of over-stressing the ship's structure. 0.3mb
